The guidance became effective immediately and outlines the expectations for financial institutions in ensuring that “policies and procedures provide oversight and controls commensurate with the risks posed by their involvement with social media.”

The guidance strongly suggests – and expects – that financial institutions take action because they may be liable for the actions they do or don’t take in the future.
